MoniQA FST on „Reference materials and method validation in food safety assurance” in combination with MoniQA FST on „Communication training – Presentation skills and introduction to media relations“

This combined training event gave participants the opportunity to enhance their expert knowledge as well as their competencies in terms of research management skills.
The aim of the MoniQA FST on „Reference materials and method validation in food safety assurance” was to describe the problems and challenges involved in the international comparability and validity of analytical results in the assurance of food safety and quality. On the basis of practical examples the focus was on current hot topics, such as mycotoxins, food allergens, pathogenic micro-organisms, GMOs, etc., the analytical possibilities (including rapid methods), and the corresponding regulations. Additionally, an overview of international standardization bodies and examples of international validation studies was given.
The additionally offered MoniQA FST „Communication training – Presentation skills and introduction to media relations“ helped participants to improve their presentation skills generally, and increased their understanding of the relationship between science and the media. The session on Day 1 focused on presentation skills while Day 2 provided practical examples on how to create better PowerPoint and poster presentations. Both days demonstrated how these skills can be adapted to communication with the media.
