MoniQA, the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and the Ministry of Science and Technology would like to invite you to attend the Workshop "Effective Mycotoxin Management" taking place at the Thailand Science Park, Tha Khlong, Pathum Thani / Bangkok, Thailand on 11-12 December 2013.

The objectives of the workshop are
- to look at the current situation of mycotoxin contamination and impacts on food security globally and specifically in Thailand and South East Asia
- to review regulations of mycotoxins in food and feed industries both in Thailand and globally,
- to review current methods for mycotoxins detections and get some hands-on experience using detection kits,
- and to get insight in mycotoxin risk analysis and mitigation strategies to control contaminations.
The rationale of this workshop: The worldwide contamination of foods and feeds with mycotoxins poses a significant problem to staple foods and meat production. Mycotoxins are secondary metabolites of molds that have adverse effects on humans, animals, and crops that result in illnesses and economic losses. The accumulation of mycotoxins in foods and feeds represents a major threat to human and animal health as they are responsible for many different toxicities including the induction of cancer, mutagenicity and estrogenic gastrointestinal, urogenital, vascular, kidney and nervous disorders. Some mycotoxins are also immuno-compromising, and can thus reduce resistance to infectious disease. Significant economic losses are associated with their impact on human health, animal productivity, and both domestic and international trade.
This workshop aims to provide knowledge and expertise in the mycotoxin field from both Thailand and abroad. Invited are quality managers, food manufacturing auditors, food scientists, toxicologists, representatives and decision makers from industry, policy and academia.
