MoniQA FAQ

What – in a nutshell – is the MoniQA project about?

MoniQA is funded by the European Union and is contributing to safe foods by enabling experts around the world use comparable methods when analysing and testing food and to share knowledge.

In more technical terms MoniQA can be described as an EU funded Network of Excellence (NoE) that aims to make the food chain safer by harmonising the criteria for methods used to analyse food for safety and quality.

What does the abbreviation MoniQA stand for?

MoniQA stands for “Monitoring and Quality Assurance in the Food Supply Chain”. The full title of the project is “Towards harmonisation of analytical methods for monitoring food quality and safety in the food supply chain” (Contract No. FOOD-CT-2006-36337).

Who participates in the MoniQA project?

The project brings together 33 international partners from 20 countries and is coordinated by the International Association for Cereal Science and Technology (ICC) based in Vienna, Austria. The MoniQA Network will expand its activities to include other organisations around the globe. A full list of partners is available in the consortium section.

What activities are conducted within the MoniQA project?

MoniQA activities fall into three distinct but interrelated categories.

Firstly, the MoniQA partners work together to integrate their research activities, personnel and infrastructure.

Secondly, the partners engage in joint research activities on harmonising guidelines, IT and the development of a food safety database.

Lastly, the results generated by the network are shared widely within the network, and other interested parties ranging from consumers to government through training programmes, conferences, newsletters etc. For more information visit the activities section.
