Goals & future activities

  • Collection of allergen detecting methods (Method database)

  • A harmonised validation protocol for quantitative food allergen ELISA methods combining the efforts of MoniQA with international initiatives ongoing under the auspices of the AOAC Allergen community will help to improve consistency in method validation for the users as well as for the developers of these methods.

  • Universally recognized reference materials for food allergens are developed. The MoniQA Working Group Food Allergens aims to produce reference material incurred (RMI) with the food allergen reference materials egg and milk, later gluten and haselnut.

  • The harmonised validation protocol for quantitative food allergen ELISA methods will be implemented by the MoniQA Working Group Food Allergens. During the project ring trials will be conducted in order to prove the use of RMI as well as the validation protocol developed. This will further promote availability of a greater number of documented / validated ELISA-based allergen detection test kits and ultimately lead to more comparable results.

  • Interaction & meetings with stakeholders from industry / companies

  • Identification of legislation / regulation harmonisation issues within the EU and between the EU and trading countries

  • Establishment of an allergen mass spectrometry subgroup & organisation of workshops and training exercises

  • Food allergens - socio-economic case study
