MoniQA methods database now open

The MoniQA project now offers its Associated Partners and selected stakeholders free access to the MoniQA methods database. This database has been launched and tested extensively within the core consortium. We are now ready to offer it to an audience of selected stakeholders.

What is the MoniQA methods database?

New MoniQA Food Allergy Factsheet published

The public perception is that food allergy is a common condition. It is true that allergy is on the increase and with that also food allergy. In this factsheet (October 2009) we provide an overview of Food allergens in MoniQA and the importance of food allergy to different staekholder groups.

New MoniQA glossy executive summary available

MoniQA Executive Summaries are abstracts of the work conducted within this EU funded project. Each year the project publishes an updated glossy executive summary with key research results. This year we have published both a 4 page and a 16 page version of the executive summary. Addtionally, abstracts of specific deliverables are available as well.

2nd International MoniQA Conference “Emerging and persisting food scares: Analytical challenges and socio‐economic impact” (8-10 June, 2010, Krakow, Poland)

After the success of the First International MoniQA Conference in Rome (8‐10 October 2008) the second conference will set out the state of the art on emerging and persisting food scares and the analytical challenges and socio‐economic impact that are connected with this issue. In particular we will provide an in‐depth look at the following thematic areas:

• Food Allergens
• Food Authenticity
• Food Additives and Processing Toxicants
• Microbiological Contaminants
• Mycotoxins/Phycotoxins

Second MoniQA newsletter published

Our MoniQA Newsletter informs you about recent MoniQA activities and the progress of our project.
Highlights in the new edition include articles on MoniQA and Food Allergens, The MoniQA Methods Database, Nano-food as well as our regular policy monitor section and the food safety web spotlight. In "project news" we cover the new journal "Quality Assurance and Safety of Crops & Foods (QAS)" and in the "Ask MoniQA" section we answer the question how associated partners can participate.

European Commission publishes new food related calls for proposals

The following 4 calls published on 30 July are now open for submission!

FP7-KBBE-2010-4
Call for proposals for specific topics within the following activities:
2.1. Sustainable production and management of biological resources from land,
forest and aquatic environments
2.2. Fork to farm: Food (including seafood), health and well being
2.3. Life sciences, biotechnology and biochemistry for sustainable non-food
products and processes
2.4. Other activities

Deadline: 14 January 2010 at 17:00:00 (Brussels local time)

MoniQA Food Allergens meets in Hamburg

On 30./31. July 2009 the members of the MoniQA Working Group on Food Allergens led by Bert Popping (Eurofins) and Clare Mills (IFR) met in Hamburg at Eurofins. The members of the WG discussed the use of different methods for allergen detection focussed of the Mass spectrometry (MS) technique and the improvement of the extraction methods. Further the WG discussed the forthcoming milk allergen validation study.

MoniQA Partners from New Zealand and China sign collaboration agreement

MoniQA partners the Institute of Environmental Science and Research (ESR) and the Chinese Cereals and Oils Association (CCOA) have signed a formal Memorandum of Understanding that signals a closer collaboration on food safety research and development with a focus on detecting food hazards in the food chain.

MoniQA Multilingual: Now available in Norwegian and Spanish

Our MoniQA leaflet has been translated into many languages by our partners.
The latest additions are Spanish and Norwegian versions.

Quality Assurance and Safety of Crops & Foods: New Issue Published!

The June issue of Quality Assurance and Safety of Crops & Foods (QAS) is out! QAS is a brand new international journal publishing peer-reviewed scientific primary research papers and review papers in the areas of cereals, grain crops, their quality and issues relating to food safety. This official Journal of ICC and MoniQA is published by Wiley-Blackwell with Stanley Cauvain and Roland Poms as the Joint Editors in Chief. The first issue appeared in March 2009.
