From 13th to 14th of September 2010 the “Knowledge Based Bio-Economy towards 2020” Conference and Exhibition took place in Brussels in the framework of the Belgian EU presidency. More than 500 participants, representing different stakeholders such as senior scientists and European and national policy maker as well as a variety of EU and non-EU countries, actively discussed and reflected on past achievements and the creation of a new vision for the bio-economy. MoniQA was represented at this important event by RTD Services.
Entitled “turning challenges into opportunities”, the event featured lively discussions about the drivers of the bio-economy and the research and innovation requirements to build it. The KBBE 2020 associated exhibition impressively highlighted already existing practical outputs of the European KBBE. With MoniQA being a contributor to achieving the KBBE strategy, RTD Services presented the MoniQA project as such and the MoniQA contaminants database as explicit output. At the MoniQA/RTDS stand people had the opportunity to have a closer look at the database and perform searches. The possibility of becoming a MoniQA Associated partner was advertised.
Lots of particpants showed interest in the MoniQA project in general, its objectives and achievements. The database itself and its use was more of interest for specific participants. With this service, MoniQA changed the habits of at least one participant. Searching for shellfish poisoning (and finding information), a British participant decided not to invite his wife to a seafood restaurant to celebrate their wedding anniversary.
