First MoniQA Webinar highlights listeriosis outbreak in cheese

On October 28, 2010  the first MoniQA Webinar (MoniQA eFST) took place.  “How (Un)Save is Our Cheese” was the eye-catching topic of this web seminar which dealt with the  timely issue  of Listeria monocytogenes which is the causative agent of listeriosis, a food-borne disease primarily associated with the consumption of processed foods such as cheese, fresh cheese  but also fish and seafood.

Marija Zunabovic who is working in this field at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences gave an insight into the epidemiological actions taken during this recent Austrian listeriosis outbreak in “Quargel” cheese in 2009/2010 and spoke about the role of the media in informing the public.

The Webinar was attended by 20 interested persons from Asia and Europe. Online evaluations showed very good results in audio quality and in the interest of the topic. The evaluation also showed that webinars are a good way to provide up-to-date information and will be implemented within MoniQA more often in the future.  The webinar “How (Un)Safe is Our Cheese” will be available as a stream within the next days.

The University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences was happy to host this webinar and is looking forward to arrange future sessions.
