In principle, MoniQA validation studies/ ring trials follow the requirements of the IUPAC/ AOAC/ ISO international protocol for collaborative trials. However, MoniQA protocols also take into account issues discussed recently at the Codex Alimentarius level, namely recovery, recovery correction, measurement uncertainty, etc. Requirements for MoniQA validation studies are given above, and may serve as guidelines for organisers and evaluators of ring trials within standardisation programmes. Analysis of the results must be clearly described and statistical evaluation of the method must include the criteria described in (5). A practical guide for the preparation of an international ring trial and spreadsheet for the statistical analysis will be available by the end of 2011.
